With the coming of winter
The Secret of Yoshitsune has ended.
4 months have passed by in a flash.
When I think back on this, it is really something that appeared to have happened in an instant.
Even the excruciating trainings,
the unforgiving schedules,
the enjoyable talks with close friends,
when I think of the past 4 months,
these memories all come out.
I can still clearly remember the first day that everyone met each other
the anxiousness that they held
and the kinds of people they were
when I was talking to them about the play.
During the press conference,
the uncertainty of how this stage play
would turn out kept going back and forth in my head.
Of course,
even I myself had no ideas
as to whether the play would come to life or not.
As that point of time, it was also I myself
who had to believe in the play making it on stage.
While the schedule was so tight that I barely had spare time,
we welcomed countless dancers and actresses
to come and take part in the auditions.
The people who were selected from this number
then had to enter 4 months of hell with us.
Right after the actual release
of the confirmed images of the team of actors and dancers ensemble,
I came out to explain the story and concept of the stage play.
“Is it really possible for someone to do something like that?”
was a question that came up.
From there,
the battle began for the production team and actors.
Because there wasn’t enough time, the production team kept working late into the night everyday.
The actors had to train up their bodies to prepare for action and acrobatics that they have never done before.
Every morning from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for 3 and a half hours,
they went through strict training to build up their bodies.
In the beginning,
there were some members who thought
that I was probably too strict.
Despite that, they clung onto determination
and decided
“I’ll definitely grow”
and everyone worked hard together.
During that time
members who began to feel the changes in their bodies
were getting excited
and with that, everyone else’s uncertain expressions slowly disappeared.
Maybe it was because they were beginning to find their own confidence
everyone began to smile all the time.
To be able to change things this much,
I wonder how many lives I’ve been able to change…
We did strict trainings for 3 and a half hours,
then after that we worked on the acting for until late at night,
that month where we did so much passed quickly too.
We were soon meeting the day of the first performance but
on the production team,
there was the issue of them struggling to catch up with their many technical problems.
Despite that
the whole team clung onto the strict belief that their own job was for them to do well
and worked straight through the night into the first day of performances.
somehow, we were able to pull of the 3 hour long performance at the end.
For this,
no matter what excuses or reasons I come up with, the play was indeed late.
The thought of cancelling it had passed my mind a few times but
at the end we were barely able to pull it off
without giving up.
From then on,
there were small updates everyday
by the whole team
to improve the play even if its only by a bit.
Such a stage play is truly rare.
There is a typical mindset that once the first day is done, the whole play is considered done, but
the actors here all had a height of awareness that is far from that.
Going through Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka,
because of everyone’s contributions we were able to bring the stage play to a higher plane.
The daily mandatory trainings
became more and more tough.
However, there was an overwhelmingly larger number
of people who were interested in pushing themselves further
than people who were unhappy.
There were also fewer people getting injured,
and to further bring up the quality of the play,
there were people who were interested in doing even more.
I, as well, refusing to lose out,
increased the intensity of my trainings.
When we did the Sendai performance,
it was clear that many of the members’ bodies had changed.
Not only did their bodies change,
their expressions had a big change as well.
Each and everyone of their actions had differences and it showed.
To make things more realistic,
small and immediate actions had been added in for themselves.
I pray that I’ll be able to meet these close friends again.
I hope from the bottom of my heart that
I’ll be able to work with such company again.
Also,
to all the Yoshitsune fans
who have kept supporting us all the way
I wish to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.
I really thank you for supporting us until the end.
Maybe the next Yoshitsune will be in 2016…
It may even be later than that.
But I want to deliver
a stage play that surpasses this one even more.
Truly, thank you very much.
My name is GACKT.
My motto is “Mr. Yoshitsune”.
I’ll work hard to deliver
the last chapter of The Secret of Yoshitsune.
But before that,
the VISUALIVE.
My thoughts can be read
on the GACKT Blomaga,
so those who want to read all of them, check it out.
