YOSHIKI and GACKT co-star. Release of AL delayed

On April 7 (Fri), YOSHIKI and GACKT co-starred together in their first NicoNico Live Broadcast in a year.

This is a collaboration session in NicoNico Live Broadcast between YOSHIKI’s official channel『YOSHIKI CHANNEL』and GACKT’s official channel『OH!!MY!!GACKT!!』. For the broadcast one year ago, it became a sensation as it was their first co-star in media in 11 years, thus giving it reason to be considered as a “legendary conversation”. And this time as well, much akin to a “legendary conversation”, a preciou conversation between two of them unfolded.

YOSHIKI, who arrived at the start, spoke of the＜New Ecnomic Summit 2017＞ which he was at before the broadcast. There, reporters asked if the new album from X JAPAN, which was clearly said to be releasing on June 30 (Fri), will really be released, to which YOSHIKI answered using flower fortune telling. With regards to this, YOSHIKI prefaced with「May I tell you the truth」, then said this week they were supposed to begin the orchestra recording in Los Angeles but the orchestra asked to make a last minute cancellation,「No matter what we do, we won’t be able to make it in time」he said, and announced that the release of the album will be delayed. However, according to YOSHIKI, the orchestra recording is close to completion and so even if there will be a delay, they’re already in the last stage of it. YOSHIKI also stated「Without a doubt, it is something I’m confident of」.

Then, after YOSHIKI’s piano performance concluded, GACKT appeared. GACKT’s first sentence was「I’m tired of waiting〜 I’ve been waiting for 3 hours」. Immediately, just like the previous broadcast, they were like brothers, perfectly in sync during their talk session. Just as they were talking about GACKT’s new single「Tsumi no Keisho ~ORIGINAL SIN~」and the movie『Kong: Skull Island』, that GACKT dubbed for, among other things, YOSHIKI was like the “Boke” and GACKT the “Tsukkomi” of a comedian duo, and a hilarious talk progressed on with antics like YOSHIKI slowly touched GACKT’s chest muscles.

Beginning with treasured incidents like a time when GACKT asked YOSHIKI out for a drink which turned out to be terrible for GACKT, and GACKT’s daily morning correspondence of “Good morning” with LUNA SEA’s Shinya, they also went on to talk about deeper topics like the kind of work they’ve put in to become the artistes they are now. The common thing between the two of them, who are both internationally active, is their being stoic. It appears that the underlying reason for that is this way of thought,「Because we don’t have talent, we can’t do the same things as other do. Even if we do twice of what others do we can’t reach those who are amazing, if we do thrice of the usual we can reach there, if we do quadruple of the usual then we can stand and compete」.

And as the conversation grew, they also spoke about the＜New Economic Summit 2017＞, and the way of being an artiste. Here too, they shared passionate words about needing to think carefully about how one approaches music as an artiste. Another thing that they both have in common is the belief that one thinks of music as a business right from the start, there will be nothing left. YOSHIKI prefaced by saying that this might sound like an excuse, but he also said「Why is it possible to release an album once a year or even once in two years? Is art that easily created?」.

From the sight of their serious discussions and laughter, their focused attitude as artistes towards music as an art, and their trust in each other that was built through music are clearly conveyed. At the end, just like it was a year ago, GACKT teaches YOSHIKI the「duck face」, and the program ends with smiles. During the program, the proposal of「Someday I’d like to do a dinner show together」also popped out, so we shall look forward to their next co-performance.
