GACKT, surprised by “actor who looks like MIYAVI’ in「King Kong」 「It’s really him!」

The Roaring & Cheering Screening Event for「Kong: Skull Island」was held today, April 5, in Tokyo, Marunouchi Piccadilly, with GACKT from the Japanese dubbing cast making an appearance.

This movie is an action-adventure that is sent on Skull Island where King Kong lives. GACKT, who dubs the voice of the expedition team leader who is Tom Hiddleston’s character, participated in the Japan premiere on March 15, together with Hiddleston and the rest of the cast. When asked about his interactions with Hiddleston, GACKT said「We spoke backstage and at the top floor of the hotel」.「When I asked him if the movie was difficult, it seemed that the filming in the jungle was really tough. He said that the heat and the humidity make you feel dispirited」GACKT said, talking about the exchange that they had.

Also, when GACKT watched this movie, it appears that in the early scenes, he thought「There’s an actor who looks like MIYAVI huh」. The person who was acting as Japanese military pilot Gunpei Igari, was unexpectedly MIYAVI himself. But he never expected that he would be acting in it, and GACKT was impressed, thinking「The expressions are exactly the same too. So there are people in this world who actually look exactly like you」, and when he confirmed his name in the ending credits, GACKT exclaimed「It’s really MIYAVI!」. The audience laughed.

The event on this day is also the first time that the Roaring Screening and the Cheering Screening are being held at the same time. GACKT said「Recently everyone watches movies on their TVs or iPads right? But recently, I’ve been thinking that it’s still meant for us to go to the cinema and appreciate with good sound and powerful visuals after all. Enjoy this experience today!」he called out, and the audience responded overwhelmingly with the cheering balloons in their hands. The subtitled version will be screened on this day but at the end, GACKT appealed「I don’t mean to brag but, I think my voice is pretty good (laughs). It might feel weird in the beginning but around the end of the movie, I think you’ll start to recognise it, like “This has become Tom’s voice!”. Please do watch the dubbed version too!」.

「Kong: Skull Island」is currently being screened in 3D/2D/IMAX formats. Aside from GACKT, Sasaki Nozomi, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Makabe Togi are also involved in the Japanese dub version.
