GACKT, who celebrates the 15th anniversary of his solo debut, has released the remix album 『GACKTRACKS-ULTRA DJ ReMIX-』. Today, in ORICON STYLE's interview with GACKT, we spoke about his beliefs and way of life as a musician who sticks to his own style, and his opinion of the rock genre. We also revisited the recent hot topic of the discrimination incident in Paris.

――Amongst the 14 people involved in this remix, there were high profile members like DJ KOO-san, Marc Panther-san, ROCKETMAN and Fukawaryo-san amongst others. Were you acquainted with them before this?
【GACKT】　That is a common misunderstanding but, I've never met with them before. The only person I was acquainted with was Marc, if we met it's more like 「It's been awhile, how're you?」, but just with that you can't say that we're really close. That's why, because this isn't an album that came about due to connections, I'm on the contrary happy that they were willing to take it on, and I was also pretty surprised with the final product. Even for my lives, in other words, I don't have any connections because I've never had a DJ do arrangements for me, I would even go as far as to say that in the first place I have few musician friends.

――Because you don't want to talk about music?
【GACKT】　Yeah, it's not interesting, if you talk about things related to music. Because everyone has their own opinion, I don't want to have drinks while talking about what's correct or wrong. If that happens, you'll definitely refute each other, and your conclusions will clash right? Especially once you start talking about music theory, since I did that before when I was younger, when you say 「that's not right」, the places where the other person is wrong becomes distinct. Furthermore, refuting each other won't make you grow closer. Frankly, if you guys are people who can come to a mutual conclusion, then there isn't any need for such a conversation in the first place. Rather it's the people who can't sell their opinion who are earnest about such conversations. Saying things like 「“Music” is ……」. Then, guys like that will say 「Isn't that right, GACKT-san! 」, and I have no choice but to say 「Hm... That's nice, if that's how you like it」 （laughs）. When that happens the speaker's position will get demolished. Also, the music industry is a vertical world but, because of my character I do things with absurdity so... ... I guess you can say starting from around me, the viruses and foreign matter will be dealt with……（laughs）.

――No way, no way, rather it's that people around you will get humbled?
【GACKT】　No~, aren't there quite a number of people who think that I'm a difficult person? Since everyone knows I'm stoic. Furthermore, right now I'm more mellow but because in the past I was quite short tempered, so because there's the risk of that, most wouldn't think of wanting to get close （laughs）. That's why, character-wise, those who I get along with are politicians or martial artists, since long ago there were also many who were in the IT industry or businessmen. That's why, often there are younger kids who ask me things like 「what's your job? 」. Although the genre is completely different （laughs）.

◆If I don't live with rock, I can't live as “GACKT” （laughs）

――With GACKT-san's way of carrying yourself, even people who are not fans will know that you're someone to be reckoned with right. Like when you mentioned in a previous blog post about the discrimination problem you experienced in a Parisian cafe. Around the world you've been asked for comments but, what do you think of that "advisory" position?
【GACKT】　For me, I'm not concerned about how the world's current trends perceive which is right and which is wrong. I live by my own standards, and even if the people 50 or a 100 years later look back and find it interesting that someone like me has been around, I'm okay with that. I, myself, don't think that my actions were wrong. Just that it can't be said that I'm 100% correct either.

――So you mean on one hand "not wrong = a belief" but "correct = valuing diversity"?
【GACKT】　Right. To me, it's like I just have a steadfast belief that I wasn't wrong. I don't think that we have to live in accordance will all the values of a diverse world. In actuality, I'm living with my own motives. So, honestly, there are times where I feel that it's hard to grow. Because I'm also an easy target for the media to attack, there are still guys who just attack right? But, I'm good. However, if I really did something that is wrong, I would have disappeared right? （laughs）. Besides, if a musician cannot express his way of life, what kind of musician is that. If you bend over and live your life hiding just stop being a musician, because that's not what rock is about. That, perhaps, is an old part of me, if you ask me 「what is rock?」, won't I be able to say「I am what rock is」?

――I see, it's the result of you expressing your way of life by sticking to your own beliefs as a musician.
【GACKT】　Because if I don't live with rock, I can't live as “GACKT” （laughs）. Because I'm thinking of entering the eyes of the world more from here on, I'm not living in Japan now. However, by doing this, looking at Japan from the outside, I know very well that the "national isolation climate" still continues on today which makes it lag behind. And, I also know that because of that Japan has missed out on many chances along the way. Since that's the case, I decided to start with myself working in the world as a Japanese, so now, I've left Japan. However, this is definitely not an easy road. If I quietly remained in Japan I wouldn't get attacked, and it wouldn't cost money either. But I will boldly choose the difficult path. That's my way of life.

◆Vista questa personalità, partendo da ciò che vedo intorno a me, eviterò i virus ed i corpi estranei

――Tra le 14 persone coinvolte in questo remix, c'erano grandi nomi come DJ KOO-san, Marc Panther-san, ROCKETMAN e Fukawaryo-san tra tutti. Avevi rapporti con loro prima di ora?
【GACKT】　Questo è un comune misunderstanding, non li ho mai incontrati prima. L'unica persona che conoscevo era Marc, se ci siamo incontrati è stato più che altro una cosa come「E' passato tanto tempo, come stai?」, ma solo per questo non si può dire che siamo così amici. Ecco perchè, siccome non è un album nato da connessioni, io sono contento che invece loro lo abbiamo affrontato, e sono stato abbastanza sorpreso dal prodotto finale. Come per i miei live, in altre parole, non ho nessuna connessione non ho mai avuto un DJ che facesse arrangiamenti per me, potrei anche dire che in primo luogo non ho molti amici tra i musicisti.

――Perchè non vuoi parlare di musica?
【GACKT】　Si, non è interessante, se parli di cose relative alla musica. Perchè ognuno ha la sua opinione, non voglio andare a prendere qualcosa da bere parlando di cosa è giusto e cosa no. Se capita, si finirebbe a rifiutarsi l'un l'altro, e le tue conclusioni andrebbero a scontrarsi giusto? Specialmente una volta che cominci a parlare di teorie sulla musica, siccome l'ho fatto prima quando ero più giovane, quando dici 「non è giusto」, i momenti in cui l'altra persona sbaglia diventa distinto. In più, rifiutandovi l'un l'altro non vi farà crescere insieme. Francamente, se siete persone che vi conoscete tramite amici comuni, non c'è nemmeno il bisogno di fare una conversazione del genere in primo luogo. Piuttosto sono le persone che non riescono a vendere la propria opinione che si imbattono in queste conversazioni. Dire cose tipo「“La musica” è ……」. Poi, ragazzi che diranno「Non è così giusto, GACKT-san! 」, e non ho altra scelta che dire 「Hm... bene, se è così che vuoi」 （ride）. Quando capita questo, la posizione di chi parla sarà demolita. In più, l'industria musicale è un mondo verticale ma, a causa del mio personaggio faccio cose con assurdità quindi...mi chiedo se potresti dire che partendo da ciò che ho intorno, i virus e i corpi estranei saranno evitati... (ride).

――Non è giusto, non è giusto, piuttosto è la gente intorno a te che viene umiliata?
【GACKT】　No~, non ci sono abbastanza persone che pensano che io sia difficile? Siccome tutti sanno che sono stoico. Inoltre, ora sono ancora più addolcito ma siccome nel passato ero abbastanza impaziente, ci potrebbe essere questo rischio, molti pensano di non voler avvicinarsi (ride). Ecco perchè, sapientemente, vado d'accordo con politici e con chi pratica arti marziali, siccome c'erano molti che erano nell'IT Industry o businessmen. Ecco perchè, spesso ci sono ragazzini che mi chiedono cose tipo「che lavoro fai? 」. Nonostante il genere sia completamente differente (ride).

◆Se non vivessi col rock, non potrei vivere come “GACKT” （ride）

――Con il modo di vivere di GACKT-san che ti stai portando dietro, anche le persone che non sono fans sapranno che tu sei qualcuno da non sottovalutare giusto? Come hai menzionato in un blog precedente riguardo il problema della discriminazione che hai provato in un cafe Parigino. Intorno al mondo ti hanno chiesto commenti ma, cosa pensi di questa posizione di avvertimento?
【GACKT】　Io, non sono preoccupato di come i correnti trends mondiali possono percepire cosa è giusto e cosa è sbagliato. Vivo secondo i miei standards, e anche se le persone tra 50 e 100 anni si guarderanno indietro e troveranno interessante il fatto che qualcuno come me è esistito, va bene per me. Io, io stesso, non penso che le mie azioni fossero sbagliate. Come non posso dire che fossero corrette al 100% anche.

――Quindi intendi che da un lato "non sbagliato = un credo" ma "corretto = valutare la diversità"?
【GACKT】　Esatto. Per me, è come se io avessi l'incrollabile sicurezza di non essermi sbagliato. Non penso che dovremmo vivere d'accordo con i valori di un mondo diverso. In realtà, io sto vivendo con i miei motivi. Quindi, onestamente, ci sono volte che mi sento come se fosse difficile crescere. Siccome sono un facile obiettivo da attaccare per i media, ci sono ancora ragazzi che mi attaccano giusto? Ma, io sono bravo. Nonostante, se davvero avessi fatto qualcosa di sbagliato, dovrei essere scomparso, giusto? (ride). Inoltre, se un musicista non può esprimere il suo modo di vista che tipo di musicista è? Se tu ti pieghi e vivi la tua vita nascondendoti allora smetti di fare il musicista, perchè il rock non è questo. Quello, forse, in una vecchia parte di me, se mi chiedi 「cos'è il rock?」, non potrei dire「Io sono ciò che è il rock」?

――Capisco, è il risultato del tuo esprimere il tuo modo di vivere che è attaccato alle tue credenze come musicista.
【GACKT】　Perchè se io non vivo con il rock, non posso vivere come “GACKT” （ride）. Siccome sto pensando di entrare sotto gli occhi di tutto il mondo da questo momento in avanti, non sto vivendo in Giappone ora. Tuttavia, facendo questo, guardando il Giappone dall'esterno, capisco molto bene che il "clima di isolamento nazionale" continua anche oggi e lo fa rimanere indietro. E, io anche so che visto che il Giappone ha perso molte chances lungo la strada. Siccome è quello il caso, ho deciso di partire con me stesso nel mondo come Giapponese, quindi ora, ho lasciato il Giappone. Tuttavia, è definitivamente una strada difficile. Se io rimanessi quietamente in Giappone, non verrei attaccato, e non costerebbe nemmeno tanto. Ma io ho scelto con coraggio questo difficile patto. Questo è il mio modo di vivere.

In the late May, I was blessed with material for a chance to interview GACKT for the first time in awhile. World renowned Japanese DJs have come together to work on『GACKTRACKS-ULTRA DJ ReMIX-』, which was to be released right before his birthday (4 July) on the 1 of July. On hindsight, maybe its because of his injuries or something else, GACKT mildly started responding to the interview with a nonchalant expression, all while perched on a balance ball. No matter how short the period of time, he is one who definitely won't sit idle without a goal. A few years back, even while having a shoot for a certain book, deciding not to waste the time he spends waiting for set changes, I recall the image of GACKT quietly reciting and repeating words in a foreign language, which is still superimposed in the 2015 GACKT.

GACKT, the perfectionist and wholehearted creator who is thorough with his particularities down to the details of performances, has, in this work, surprisingly revealed that he has left the selection of DJs and the songs that they take on up to themselves. To understand the reason behind this, I openly asked him for an interview. In addition, GACKT has announced that after the 【LAST VISUALIVE TOUR】 he will be taking a break from "VISUALIVEs" his signature stage shows which combines live concerts with visual expression. In all of that, what are sentiments does the multi-faceted performer, GACKT, live by these days? I ask about his current position, and understand his emotions more.

"Because it exceeded everyone's expectations, I thought「it's great that we did this」, and it inspired me quite a bit."

――While listening and enjoying the music, I had an unexpected discovery that GACKT's songs, even the ballads could even be arranged to dance beats. In the first place, what made you want to create a concept like this?

GACKT： With the assumption that we're going in the direction of starting on the【LAST VISUALIVE TOUR】soon, there was the flow of wanting to speed up and get people excited. Thus, the idea was born when I started thinking, "Not only to my current fans, if I could convey the songs to people I've yet to touch...", with the songs that have created by GACKT until now. So while wondering how many of the DJs, who represent Japan internationally, will be interest in participating, I reached out to them and they took up the idea faster than expected. I intended to pick on a first-come-first-serve basis but, when rumours of this project spread, there were others who came up requesting to be involved as well. That's why, I'm confident that we probably will do another one? It's really great.

――For example, like deciding which person gets to remix which song, what was the feel of GACKT-san's direction?

GACKT： None none none! I already told them,「Do it however you like!」. This time, I didn't dish out a single order. I, myself, was initially a little worried and wondered「Is my voice suitable for DJ remixes?」, but against all odds I was surprised by the results. When listening to my voice as an instrument, I felt「Ah, so this is how it gets fit in」, and that was what surprised me the most.

――Did you get to hear the different stages during production? Or did you straight away listen to the final product?

GACKT： I did listen to the work in progress. Also, I though I might yell out「NO」in the middle of it but, in the end there was none of that, we progress with me exclaiming「This is amazing!」. My surprise was in the sense of "you can even remix this song!?". Like for「WHITE LOVERS -Shiawase na Toki-（DAICHI YOKOTA ReMIX）」and「Kimi ni Aitakute（Janzzin'park D＆B Remix）」and others. Including「Akatsukizukuyo -DAY BREAKERS-（el poco maro ReMIX）」and「Kimi no Tame ni Dekiru Koto（TJO＆YUSUKE from BLU-SWING ReMIX）」too. I was surprised by「Koakuma Heaven（FMP EURODISCO MIX）」too.

――「Koakuma Heaven」was similar in style to new wave music, and it felt fresh.

GACKT： That's right. Furthermore, the whole thing was in minor right? I was really moved by that, I thought「This is awesome! To think the same song can become something so different」. As it far exceed my own expectations, as expect this was enjoyable. Generally because many of my songs are quite heavy, much of the time one has to really focus while listening to it. However, I guess you could say that overall, the music this time around can be listened to pleasantly. With this time's album, when I listened to it in that way, there are many songs where I can inadvertently say「This is pretty cool!」. On the whole, all the DJ's approaches are really cool but, for「WHITE LOVERS～」and「JESUS（TeddyLoid ReMIX）」,「OASIS（MITOMI TOKOTO ReMIX）」somehow, I thought「Amazing!」. When I listen to DJ KOO-san's「CLAYMORE（ULTRA DJ ReMIX／DJ KOO）」, I even got goose bumps.

――DJ KOO-san was quite heavily involved in this project, or so I heard.

GACKT： Yes, in the sense that he did a substantial amount of research. I'm happy, I' really thankful. Until this, we had nothing to do with each other besides when we happen to meet during TV programs. Amongst all the collaborating DJs this time, honestly the only person who I've met, spoken to, had drinks with, and connected personally is Mark（「CUBE（DanceFloorExperience MiX／MARK PANTHER）. However, because everyone really exceeded my expectations, I thought「it's great that we did this」, and it inspired me quite a bit. There are times when it boils down to wanting to go in the direction that you want to go in on your own but, by broadening out like this, it makes me think「Ah, so there are things like that too」. Things like that make me glad. Overall, including the song order and the music video, to leave everything to someone else's discretion, it is a first for me but, I really got to feel everyone's talent and abilities. Because if I gave out orders instead, the merits of that person will definitely be shut away. Saying「If you don't do it like this, it's unacceptable」「If you don't do it like that, it's unacceptable」right from the start will make things uninteresting. Because these guys already have their own tastes, and also when you line them up amongst other DJs they're already famous in their own right, I believe each of them are definitely hyped in their own way. They probably also have the sense of「not wanting to lose」...

――That's true. However, it's also amazing that GACKT-san can get used to the feeling of leaving it up to someone else. Because I believe that this wouldn't be possible unless you had a certain amount of respect for the other party.

GACKT： Anyway they are people who are representing Japan on the global stage with their own international activities, I definitely hold respect for them. Just that, nevertheless, there are often cases when once it comes to work, we step into another dimension. When I wonder「What's the point of showing off the talents of these people……?」, I settled down with the conclusion,「In any case, this time, it's better if I don't do anything」（laughs）.

Nel tardo Maggio, mi è stata data l'opportunità di intervistare GACKT dopo tanto tempo. I rinomati DJ Giapponesi sono stati chiamati insieme a lavorare sul 『GACKTRACKS-ULTRA DJ ReMIX-』, che è stato rilasciato proprio appena prima il suo compleanno (4 Luglio), il 1° Luglio. Col senno di poi, forse a causa delle sue ferite o da qualcos'altro, GACKT ha cominciato leggermente a rispondere all'intervista con un'espressione indifferente, il tutto mentre era appollaiato su una balance ball. Non importa quanto sia stato breve il periodo di tempo, lui non è uno di quelli che decisamente rimane seduto inattivo senza uno scopo. Qualche anno fa, durante il servizio fotografico per un certo libro, decidendo di non voler perdere il tempo in cui aspettava che il set venisse cambiato, mi è tornata in mente l'immagine di GACKT che quietamente recitava e ripeteva parole in una lingua straniera, che si sovrappone a quella del GACKT del 2015.

GACKT, il perfezionista ed il creatore di tutto cuore che approfondisce le sue performances con le sue peculiarità, ha, in questo lavoro, sorprendentemente rivelato di aver lasciato la selezione ai DJ e le canzoni a prendere il massimo da loro stessi. Per capire la ragione dietro questa cosa, gli ho apertamente chiesto un'intervista. In più, GACKT ha annunciato che dopo il【LAST VISUALIVE TOUR】 prenderà una pausa dai "VISUALIVEs" i suoi personali shows che combinano concerti live con espressioni live. In tutto questo, quali sono i sentimenti che il performers dalle molte sfaccettature, GACKT, vive in questi giorni? Gli chiedo della sua corrente posizione e capisco di più le sue emozioni.

――Mentre ascoltavo e mi godevo la musica, ho inaspettatamente scoperto che le canzoni di GACKT, anche le ballads potrebbero essere ri-arrangiate con il ritmo dance. In primo luogo, cosa ti ha fatto creare un concetto del genere?

GACKT： Con l'assunzione di andare nella direzione di cominciare il 【LAST VISUALIVE TOUR】presto, c'era il desiderio di velocizzare ed eccitare le persone. Quindi, l'idea è nata quando ho cominciato a pensare, "Non solo i miei fans di ora, ma se io potessi convogliare le mie canzoni a persone che non ancora sono riuscito a raggiungere...", con le canzoni create da GACKT fino ad ora. Quindi mentre mi chiedevo quali dei DJ, che rappresentano il Giappone internazionalmente, sarebbero stati interessati a partecipare, li ho raggiunti e loro hanno preso l'idea più veloce del previsto. Io intendevo sceglierli con il metodo "chi prima arriva meglio alloggia" ma, quando i rumours su questo prodotto si sono diffuse, ce ne sono stati altri che sono arrivati per essere coinvolti anche. Ecco perchè, credo che potremmo farne un altro? E' davvero magnifico.

――Per esempio, come decidere quali persone dovessero remixare quale canzone, che direzione prendeva il sentimento di GACKT-san?

GACKT： Nessuna nessuna nessuna! L'ho già detto a loro,「Fate quello che volete!」. Questa volta, non ho dovuto dare un singolo ordine. Io stesso, ero inizialmente preoccupato e mi stavo chiedendo「La mia voce è adatta per i remix dei DJ?」, ma contro ogni previsione sono rimasto sorpreso dai risultati. Mentre ascoltavo la mia voce come uno strumento, mi sono sentito come「Ah, quindi è così che si adatta」, ed é quello che mi ha sorpreso.

――Ti è stata data la possibilità di sentire i diversi stadi di produzione? O sei andato dritto ad ascoltare il prodotto finale?

GACKT： Ho ascoltato il work in progress. GACKT： Giusto. Inoltre, l'intero era in minore giusto? Sono stato davvero commosso da questo, ho pensato「Questo è grandioso! Pensare che la stessa canzone possa diventare così diversa」. Siccome questi ragazzi hanno i loro propri gusti, ed anche quando li allinei con gli altri DJ sono già famosi per loro stessi, io credo che ognuno di loro sia definitivamente carico a modo suo. Loro probabilmente hanno anche il senso del「non voler perdere」...

――E' vero. Tuttavia, è anche fantastico che GACKT-san possa abituarsi al sentimento di lasciare tutto a qualcun altro. Perchè credo che questo non possa essere possibile a meno che tu non abbia una certa dose di rispetto per l'altra parte.

GACKT： Tuttavia sono persone che stanno rappresentando il Giappone in un palco globale con le loro attività internazionali, io ho definitivamente un gran rispetto per loro. ――What were the demands you made to the DJs regarding this project??

【GACKT】I've been asked several times but no, I had absolutely no demands. For this reason, I made sure DJs could choose lyrics and songs all by themselves. So I just asked that each of them would put part of their identity in it. If they had used my voice only, that same atmosphere wouldn't be created, maybe it was better like that... Once I heard the finished work I realized it wasn't a mistake to leave also my original voice, since we couldn't go without it.

――And what would happen if it won't convince?

【GACKT】If it would be unsuccessful at the end, I would close the album distribution. Cause it's not something I'm doing for me and for the DJs, but I'm doing it for all the people listening to me. If I was about to release a product that wouldn't satisfy anybody for its quality, nobody will buy it. If it were to be released anyway, it wouldn't have my name for sure. I think that also the DJs can understand that, music is not something done just for selling right? If we base on the need to sell their own albums, the music will end up to be a failure. Today, unfortunately we are noticing this phenomenon more and more.

-GACKT, there have been many "monetary issues" during these 15 years?

【GACKT】It's right. I've always thought of having to make a line of sales but I never did. For this reason every time they asked me to do that, I've always turned over the question. Anyway in any case, I kept on going on my way, so writing songs that just I could sing. Why should I sing just when my fans can listen to me? Business should be due to end in 3 or 4 years but since rock is a style of life, the more I do it the more I want to do it. For this reason I have no intention to end this lifestyle within 3 or 4 years, but I don't wan't to be controlled by anyone either. This is the belief that I created for myself so far, during these 15 years as GACKT.

【GACKT】Since anyone is having their own mind, I have to say I have not a precise idea about how GACKT was able to achieve this success. But I have to say basically that I'm earning a lot of money in my life. I'd want to say that anyway you shouldn't definitely use a public figure as their own alter-ego . Cause of that every time I had some difficulty I have never used GACKT's ways. Actually this identity brought another result to this, meaning the understanding that I can have a profit also from other things. These are the reasons why I decided to go on having GACKT's style so far.

◆If I wasn't born into the rock, I wouldn't have to create GACKT (ahahah)

――GACKT, this style of yours has become highly sought, your fans go crazy with it too! Yesterday your racial discrimination's experience in that Parisian Coffee was still mentioned. There were comments from all over the world, so, what's your opinion about it?

【GACKT】I don't care too much about what's wrong and what's good with my climate in the world and how I'm considered. About myself, I never thought that I made a mistake. But I didn't say that's 100% sure.

Quindi ho richiesto soltanto che ognuno di loro mettesse parte della propria identità. Se avessero usato soltanto la mia voce, di sicuro non si sarebbe potuta creare quella stessa atmosfera, forse è stato meglio così… Una volta ascoltato il lavoro finito, mi sono reso conto che non è stato un errore lasciare anche la mia voce originale dal momento che non si è potuto farne a meno.

――E se non dovesse convincere, cosa succederebbe?

GACKT: Se alla fine dovesse risultare fallimentare, farei chiudere la distribuzione dell'album. Perchè non è una cosa che sto facendo per me e i DJ, ma lo sto facendo per tutte le persone che mi ascoltano. Se dovesse uscire un prodotto che non soddisfa nessuno per la sua qualità, nessuno lo prenderebbe. Nel caso in cui dovesse comunque uscire, di sicuro non porterà il mio nome. Penso che questo lo capiscano anche i DJ, la musica non sarà stata fatta solo per vendere? Per il bisogno di mettere in vendita i propri album, il mondo della musica è finito per diventare fallimentare. Ai giorni nostri, sfortunatamente si sta notando questo fenomeno sempre di più.

――GACKT , In 15 anni ci sono state molte "questioni monetarie’’？

GACKT: Proprio così. Ho sempre pensato di dover fare una linea delle vendite ma non l’ho mai fatto. Per questo ogni volta che me le richiedevano, ho sempre rigirato la domanda. Comunque in ogni caso ho proseguito per la mia strada, ovvero facendo pezzi che avessi potuto cantare soltanto io. Perché devo solo cantare quando i miei fan possono ascoltarmi? Il business sarebbe dovuto  finire in 3 o 4 anni ma dato che il rock è uno stile di vita, più lo faccio e più lo voglio fare. Per questo non ho intenzione di far finire questo stile di vita in 3 o 4 anni, ma non voglio farmi neanche controllare da qualcuno. Questa è la convinzione che mi sono fatto finora, in 15 anni passati come GACKT.

◆Colui ha scritto quella critica deve avere sicuramente un livello di comprensione molto basso！

――Grazie alla tua prestanza e metodologia sei stato in grado di costruirti una posizione unica

GACKT: Però ultimamente, nelle news mondiali si cominciano ad accavallare articoli con titoli simili a「Come mai GACKT, anche se non riesce a vendere i CD riesce a fare quella vita?」Dopo che l’ho visto, ho capito subito che colui che l’ha scritto deve avere un livello di compresione davvero molto basso. La vita di un musicista non è fatta solo dal vendere CD. Per poter migliorare la vendita dei CD, andare a fare cose tipo stringere la mano un po’ dovunque è una cosa solo da IDOL. L’uscita dei CD è crollata dal momento in cui si è sviluppato iTunes, gli artisti che continuano a vendere CD e solo quello, di sicuro dovranno superare momenti difficili fino ad arrivare all’estinzione. Dal momento che ho capito questa cosa, ho deciso di creare un nuovo stile musicale, per poter vivere al meglio. Vorrei quindi dire alle persone nel mondo, che forse non hanno ancora capito che il vero profitto non è solo quello dei concerti o dei live ma è ben altro.

――Quale pensi sia stata la ragione che ti ha portato a un successo così grande e ad ottenere un tuo stile, GACKT?

【GACKT】Dal momento che ognuno la pensa in un modo, devo dire di non avere un’idea precisa su come abbia fatto GACKT ad ottenere questo successo. Ma devo dire che nella mia vita fondamentalmente sto guadagnando molti soldi. Vorrei dire che comunque non si dovrebbe assolutamente usare un personaggio pubblico come alter – ego di se stessi. Per questo motivo ogni volta che ho trovato delle difficoltà non ho mai fatto uso del modo di fare di GACKT. Effettivamente quest’identità ha fatto nascere un altro risultato, ovvero far capire che posso trarre un profitto anche da altre cose. Questi sono i motivi per cui fino ad ora ho deciso di continuare ad avere lo stile di GACKT.

◆Se non fossi nato nel rock, non avrei dovuto fare GACKT (ahahah)

――GACKT, questo tuo stile è diventato molto ricercato. Anche i tuoi fan impazziscono per questo! Pensa che anche ieri è stata menzionata la tua esperienza di discriminazione razziale in quel caffè parigino. Ci sono stati commenti proventienti da tutto il mondo, perciò, qual è la tua opinione riguardo questo fenomeno?

GACKT: Io, cosa va bene e cosa non va bene del mio clima mite nel mondo e come sono considerato non me ne interesso molto. Non faccio che vivere secondo i miei criteri, tra 50 o 100 anni quando le persone si guarderanno finalmente indietro, e capiranno quanto hanno fatto divertire questo ragazzo, sicuramente sarà una buona cosa. Per quanto riguarda me stesso, non ho mai pensato di aver commesso un errore. Però non ho detto che ne sia sicuro al 100%.

――Per non sbagliare è necessario: crederci, ed è corretto apprezzare le diversità. Uhm, che cosa avresti voluto dire con questo?

GACKT: Beh, per quanto mi riguarda penso che per non cadere mai in errore, bisogna essere fermamente convinti su qualcosa. Non penso che dovremmo vivere rapportandoci ai diversi valori del mondo. In effetti, sarebbe da egoisti. Onestamente, penso che chi lo sia, si senta molto forte. Forse i media mi hanno attaccato perché sono una persona abbastanza debole? Ma comunque, ben fatto. Mi chiedo, se avessi sbagliato in passato, perché non mi hanno fatto sparire? (ahahah) Inoltre, non potendo puntare il dito su altri musicisti su cosa l’avrebbero potuto fare. Se fossi costretto a vivere come fanno tutti in una sorta di prigione, chiuso dietro a una serratura, di sicuro smetterei di fare il musicista, questo non è mica rock! Questo mi ricorda a momenti passati, quando alla domanda「Che cos’è il rock? 」, tendevo a rispondere「Sono io, il rock!」.. giusto no?

――Naturalmente, e penso che comunque esprima benissimo il modo di vivere e la fede dei veri musicisti.

【GACKT】Che dire, Se non fossi nato nel rock, non avrei dovuto fare GACKT. Da oggi in poi sono intenzionato ad entrare nel campo visivo mondiale, quindi non sto vivendo in Giappone attualmente. Per questo, quando guardo il Giappone dall’esterno, si nota ancora i danni ricevuto dal periodo di isolamento. Inoltre, per questo motivo, ad ogni possibilità si cerca di scappare da quel paese. Ho pensato di andare all’estero prima come Giapponese per questo motivo, ma adesso, mi sono allontanato dal mio paese. In tutti i casi non è una situazione semplice.
