GACKT Official X Update. Translation below
【Striving Not to Be Disliked】
This has been around for ages,
but even as times change,
so many people remain haunted
and tormented by this mindset.
It has accelerated rapidly,
especially with the rise of social media.
The world is full of people
trapped by such trivial concerns.
It is better to have
【the courage to be disliked】.
【Living while constantly walking on eggshells around others】
and
【being kind to others】
are two different things.
【Striving not to be disliked by others】
vs.
【Striving to be liked by the people you actually care about】
These two things
may seem similar, but they are worlds apart.
There are limits to
how much effort a person can make
and how much energy they can pour into things.
If you use up all your energy
【striving not to be disliked by others】,
you have nothing left
for the effort you should be putting into
【being liked by the people who truly matter to you】.
So many people
fall into this trap.
It’s not about who likes *you*;
it’s about who *you* cherish.
It’s about how much time
you can create with those important people.
That is where you should be
pouring your energy, isn’t it?
If you’re too terrified of being disliked by others,
you lose sight of the people who truly matter.
That’s completely missing the point, isn’t it?
In the end,
exhausted by human relationships,
you conclude:
【I’m done dealing with people!】
【I’m cutting off all social ties!】
But that means
you got it wrong
right from the start.
Humans are meant
to live alongside one another.
However,
the “people” I’m talking about here
don’t just mean “others” in general.
It starts with
the people who are truly important to you.
Cherish those people.
That creates emotional breathing room;
and when your capacity as a person grows—
both mentally and financially—
only then can you face others
without walking on eggshells,
engaging with them on equal, honest terms. And then,
you’ll naturally find yourself being kind.
For those exhausted by relationships—
it’s not the relationships themselves
that are wearing you out,
but rather the sheer effort
of trying not to be disliked
by people who don’t really matter, right?
It’s okay.
You don’t have to be liked by everyone.
You don’t need to worry about it.
After all,
most of them are just strangers, aren’t they?
Try pouring your energy
into cherishing the people
who truly matter to you.
It’ll change everything—
your life,
and the people who surround you.
