"Consultant - The Man Who Writes About Death" with GACKT

Actors Kentaro Ito and GACKT, along with director Hideo Nakata, attended a press conference in Tokyo on the 4th to announce the completion of the WOWOW drama series “Consultant – The Man Who Writes About Death” (starting June 7th, Sundays at 10:00 PM / 6 episodes total, first episode free).

Ito plays Yo Izaki, the protagonist who is initially ordinary but gradually transforms into “the man who writes about death,” while GACKT plays Akifumi Kurokawa, the mysterious man who drastically alters Izaki’s life. GACKT, who played the mysterious character, said, “The first thing I did to create the character’s image was to talk with the director. I always think about how far I can embody the director’s vision,” before playfully asking Director Nakata, “How was it?” Suddenly turned to the topic, Director Nakata hastily replied, “It was wonderful,” but Ito chuckled, “Even the director would be surprised if you suddenly put him on the spot!” GACKT acknowledged that he had “extorted” praise, saying, “Well, at this timing, saying ‘Well…’ doesn’t really do much,” which made Ito burst into laughter.

This film is a dark suspense thriller based on the novel “The Consultant” by Korean author Lim Sung-soon. It depicts the life of Yo Izaki (Kentaro Ito), an unremarkable aspiring mystery novelist, who is dragged into a mysterious organization called “The Company” and forced to live as an “assassination consultant,” writing “perfect assassination scenarios.”

The original novel was a finalist for the translation category of the prestigious Dagger Award, a global mystery literature award hosted by the Crime Writers’ Association (CWA). It has also been announced that the film will be streamed on U+tv in Korea, attracting attention in both Japan and Korea.
