GACKT starring in his first movie in 14 years set in hometown Okinawa 「It’s repaying a favor」

On the 23rd, singer GACKT attended the stage greeting for the movie 『Karanukan』 at 『Shima Zenbu de Ookina-sai 9th Okinawa International Movie Festival』, held in Okinawa. GACKT, who stars in this movie that has the backdrop of the nature of his hometown Okinawa, shared his feelings, saying 「I’ve always had the thought of wanting to repay and contribute something to Okinawa」.

The last time that GACKT acted in the lead role for a movie was in 『MOON CHILD』 (2003), and it has been 14 years since then. He acts as an internationally renowned photographer who encounters a beautiful girl in Okinawa. Kimura Suzuka, who has experience in rhythmic gymnastics and winning in the group national championship, plays the heroine and it is also her first time acting in a movie.

Kimura said 「GACKT-san is very friendly」, conveying her thoughts on acting with him, and GACKT said with a smile 「My appearance is like this but I, surprisingly, don’t have any walls up. I think she gets along very well too」. With regards to the filming, he recalled 「Since he’s a character who is never loud, when I act as him, my personality becomes dark, and I become an insiduous version of myself. The director told me that the character doesn’t say much but I should express his passion more, and the tone of his lines were low too, so it was rather difficult」.

The stage greeting was also attended by Kimura Yuichi, and director Hamano Yasuhiro.
