『King Kong』 Tom Hiddleston’s First Visit to Japan GACKT「He’s a good man up close」

On the 15th, Tom Hiddleston, known for his role as Loki in 『Thor』 (2011), came to Shinjuku, Tokyo’s Kabukicho Godzilla Road for the Japan premiere of the movie 『Kong: Skull Island』 (releasing on 25th). He provided fanservice in the cold, saying happily 「This is my first time in Japan, thank you for the warm welcome」.

This movie depicts the sublime experiences of the expedition team that was sent to infiltrate the mysterious Skull Island for the sake of territory expansion. Aside from Hiddleston, co-stars Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson also visited Japan. GACKT and Sasaki Nozomi, who were involved in providing the Japanese dubs for the movie, also arrived at the red carpet where around 1,200 people were gathered as audience.

GACKT, who spoke to Hiddleston in English, said 「He’s a good man up close. You rarely meet men who are nice when you meet them up close」with regards to his impression of him, and also introduced the tourist spot Shinjuku Golden Gai to Hiddleston. Hiddleston was interested, saying 「I’d like to go. It sounds like fun」.

In relation to King Kong’s rematch against Godzilla in 2020, a gigantic King Kong appeared on the stage that was set up under the Shinjuku Toho Building which had Godzilla towering over it. The cast said 「It’s an honour to be standing under Godzilla」, and Samuel L. Jackson excitedy took a picture with his smartphone. Aside from that, Fujioka Hiroshi, Miyagi Daiki, mam (mimmam), Dante Carver, Onishi Lion, and Mika Kano appeared on the red carpet as guests.
