GACKT Official X Update. Translation below
I returned to Japan yesterday.
As you probably know, the House of Representatives election is currently underway in Japan.
Japanese people’s interest in politics is “still” low compared to other countries.
I’m writing this post because I feel this reality as I observe Japan from the outside.
First of all,
[If politicians change, the country will change.]
Therefore, I want you to understand that the election to choose politicians is the act of deciding the country’s policies.
Elections up until now have certainly been boring.
“It doesn’t matter who I vote for”
“Nothing will change anyway.”
There were far too many people who stayed home and said these things.
What’s more, the more people who stayed home, the more pessimistic they were about the future and the more critical they were of politics.
When dealing with a mass public with their eyes closed and pessimistic, it’s not surprising that people who put their own interests above the national interest would rise to power.
That’s how elections became boring, and politics became so strange.
Politics is difficult to understand.
To be honest, it’s a hassle.
It takes time.
It requires the energy to research.
If you talk about it with people around you, you might be annoyed or even laughed at.
I understand why few people have friends with whom they can have lively political discussions.
But elections are still one of the few opportunities to decide who will run this country.
There are no perfect candidates.
You won’t get all the policies you want.
But that’s no reason to give up thinking.
“Which is better?”
The moment you abandon that process,
you become a mere bystander.
Indifference is not neutral.
Indifference is complete agreement with the status quo, that “the way things are is fine.”
Not voting is an abdication of responsibility disguised as indifference.
Elections are not events or festivals.
It is an act of accepting responsibility.
That’s why I say it:
Vote by February 8th!!
What do you think?
There is no right answer.
I don’t need any nice answers.
I certainly won’t criticize.
What do you think about politics today,
and this election?
Please tell me honestly.
