It’s true,
I do keep my fingertips neat.
That’s because when I’m eating,
people’s eyes are inevitably drawn to my hands.
It’s not that I want to look clean.
I expose my worn-out fists on a daily basis,
so I think it’s a good idea to at least keep my nails trimmed.
It all started when I went to America a long time ago.
I would always get stopped at immigration.
And I would always be bombarded with questions.
Inspector: “What’s the purpose of your trip?”
G: “To see a friend.”
Inspector: “How long will you be staying?”
G: “A week.”
Inspector: “What do you do for work?”
G: “Musician.”
And then,
I would always hear this:
Inspector: “Of course not. Musicians don’t keep their fists like that.”
G: “…”
I had the same conversation many times.
I was even taken to a separate room.
Since then,
I’ve decided to keep my nails neat.
