HIDEHIRO (drums), MiA (guitar), DAICH (bass), HIROTO (guitar), and TAKATORA (guitar) appeared in order.
Then, the “Demon King” GACKT finally took the stage, raising the excitement in the venue.
GACKT’s long hair, unveiled for the first time that day, elicited shrieks from the audience.
GACKT spread his arms wide and horizontally. The cheers grew even louder. The moment he picked up the microphone, the cheers stopped instantly. In the silence, GACKT spoke his first line.
“This is the start of a new chapter for YFCz! Go wild!” The audience responded, dancing wildly with joy.
Combined with GACKT’s demon king costume and hairstyle, it was an opening that clearly signaled the start of a new chapter.
As the shocking start of M1 “DYBBUK” raised the energy in the venue, GACKT showed off his charisma with his movements.
M2 “SPEED MASTER” featured a melodic, driving sound accompanied by white CO2 smoke. This was truly the moment the signal smoke was raised. Afterwards, the melodic sound suddenly changed to a heavier sound with a different approach. The time between the white smoke at the beginning and the white smoke at the end of the song felt like just a split second.
During song three, “DISPAR,” the audience responded as if in perfect unison with the lively drum beat. It was a truly synchronized moment. The set concluded with a “SHOUT!” call, and the audience, who had likely been overwhelmed by the previous two songs, and the band “became one,” witnessed this moment.
In the call-and-response that has become a regular feature at YFCz concerts, GACKT called out, “Man! Woman!”, to which members of the audience roared in unison.
The call of “Can you do it? Yokohama!” triggered the intro to song four, “MARIA.” A beautiful guitar ensemble and HIDEHIRO’s steady yet powerful drumming. It felt truly amazing.
Then, starting with a newly recorded intro for this occasion, M5 “UNTIL THE LAST DAY” combined GACKT’s vocal ability with the heavy band sound, honed through Maou Symphony, to tremble deep within the audience. The unfamiliar intro was actually a new song that hadn’t been announced.
M6 “FALL AGAIN” was performed for the first time. With a never-before-seen song structure, GACKT expressed himself with a more distorted vocal delivery. Movement, stillness, intensity, and beauty were all packed into the song, all packed into a tight space.
The audience witnessed the birth of a masterpiece.
M7 “SUDDENLY” was a song that left the audience intoxicated with guitar and vocals throughout. Even I was taken aback, realizing that this was such a sweet moment! My immersion in sweetness was short-lived. From there, the stage shifted to the danceable zone with M8 “RIDE OR DIE,” where GACKT’s seductive dance shone through with a sharp edge. It was truly a captivating song.
M9 “VANILLA 0 -ZERO-” is a rearranged version of the classic hit “VANILLA,” which was released for limited download in 2018, and this was its first time being performed live. “Would you like to dance with me?” GACKT began the song. Men and women alike were enthralled by the line “Can I love you?” as he sang. For M10 “Passionate Lightning,” the band members all shook their hips in unison with GACKT, cutely livening up the atmosphere. The lighting effects created a sense of unity, and as the entire venue danced and swayed, heads and brains began to spin. GACKT once again performed the call and response, leading the audience to an even higher level.
After six rounds of “Are you ready? Hey!”, GACKT began his song with a shout of “Let me hear the cry of your soul!” and “JESUS!” as M11 “JESUS” began.
During the intro, the audience joined in, shouting “Hey! Hey!” along with the song.
It was truly the moment when the demon king became a god. The final song of the set was M12 “ALL MY LOVE.”
“Born on the same planet, born in the same era, we finally managed to meet like this,” GACKT addressed the audience. GACKT’s breathing could be heard through the microphone and speakers. It seemed as if the entire audience was immersed in the performance, both visually and auditorily, by this staging that pushed the limits of what was possible. And in the silence, GACKT unleashed his overwhelming presence, uttering the words that sum up everything about this song: “Don’t forget. We’ll always be by your side!”, and the main part of the live performance came to a close.
After the never-ending calls for YFCz, the band members reappeared. They threw towels into the audience as a fan service. GACKT, who was last to take the stage, surprisingly held a towel in his mouth. The front block waited in anticipation. The encore song, “Mata, Koko de Amashō,” began with the title call, and the blissful time continued endlessly. “Let’s meet here again!” he promised to meet the audience again, and at the end, he threw a kiss, bringing the live performance to a close. It was a wonderful live performance in which the audience was able to share a time of love, a time of affection, until the very end.
As the opening act of their world tour, GACKT YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz will be bringing this energy to three South American countries in February. Even on the other side of the world, they will surely deliver a performance that will satisfy the ears, eyes, and hearts. Tonight is effectively the eve of a revolution in their world tour.
